Local talent recognised in 2022 Australian Accounting Awards

From the vast pool of Hunter accounting professionals in the region, a select few were named finalists and winners at the 2022 Australian Accounting Awards.

The Australian Accounting Awards is dedicated to recognising success and innovation among leading firms and accountants across the nation.

Major wins from the region included Mentor of the Year winner, PKF Sydney & Newcastle Business Advisory Services and Corporate Finance Director, Andrew Beattie.

Other notable mentions from the region included:

  • Small and Solo Accounting Firm Coach and Mentor of Amanda Gascoigne Consulting, Amanda Gascoigne, a finalist for Thought Leader of the Year and Mentor of the Year.
  • PKF Sydney and Newcastle Commercial Manager, Stacie Shaw, a finalist for Accounting Support Staff of the Year

The finalist list, which was announced on Tuesday 26 April, featured over 290 professionals across 34 submission-based categories.

Accountants Daily Editor, Philip King said their awards night was the perfect opportunity to highlight the best in the industry after the ups and downs of COVID-19.

“The Accountants Daily Australian Accounting Awards night is renowned as the premier event each year when the profession recognises and celebrates those right at the top of their game,” Philip said.

“This year it is especially poignant as the first face-to-face awards night since the onset of COVID. It offers the whole industry a chance to come together and mark its exceptional contributions to the national wellbeing through the trials of the pandemic and testing natural disasters.

“Under such difficult circumstances, to be shortlisted from among the hundreds of high-quality entries is a mark of high achievement, one that echoes throughout the profession.”

Recently celebrating his 15th anniversary with the firm, Andrew said winning the award is just further recognition of the team around him.

“I am very humbled to be the winner of this prestigious award. It continues to validate the difference that you can make in the lives of your team and others in the industry, helping them to grow as professionals to create the next generation of leaders,” Andrew said.

“It is all about leading by example for me and having my values in order has always been the top of the list. I must reflect on the most important qualities of a leader in encouraging my mentees to make a difference in the community.

“When I see the difference that they begin to make in others’ lives like supporting charities and volunteering their time in local organisations, that is when I can say that I have fulfilled my duties as a mentor.”

Amanda Gascoigne said that she was humbled to be recognised and proud to be named as a finalist in two categories in the Australian Accounting Awards 2022 for the second year in a row.

“Now more than ever with the great resignation, increasing workloads, declining mental- health trends, and the growing importance of fostering female leadership, it is ever more critical to champion professional and personal balance,” Amanda said.

Accountants’ Daily Editor, Philip King said it was great to stop and pause and celebrate the best in the profession over the past 12 months.

“There is no higher reward than the acclaim of your peers. The awards night is about celebrating and toasting our winners, along with the winning spirit in every one of you.”
