Local company, Firestorm is working in collaboration with Transport for NSW to improve bus safety across Sydney and the Hunter Region.

The collaboration involves the world’s largest retrofit the P mark fire standard implementation to date.

The P mark standard is a certification arrangement for fire suppression systems on the engine compartment of buses and coaches. The implementation of P mark fire suppression systems was one of the key recommendations that came from the investigation undertaken by the Office of Transport Safety of the bus fire which occurred in September 2016 on the Harbour Bridge, cutting four lanes of traffic.

Recognised for the installation and maintenance of fire suppression systems, Hunter-based firm, Firestorm was chosen for the job.

Firestorm’s General Manager, Kristian Bischoff said this adds to what has been a very successful year.

“We have grown our team significantly and experienced unprecedented growth. Whilst this has come with some challenges, we are highly optimistic about where the business is going,” Kristian said.

“We are currently on track to deliver the installation of our fire suppression system, Fogmaker on 2,248 buses over 30 plus sites, involving more than 250 different bus designs.”

The project has been undertaken over a period of 10 months, involving 15 installation teams, and is set to be finalised in August this year.

Beyond this project, Kristian said the business is continuously looking to further diversify the application of fire suppression systems.

“Fogmaker is widely accepted as an industry standard for semi-enclosed engine bays thanks to its compact design. It is also ideally suited to smaller plant and equipment,” Kristian said.

“We are also looking to develop an Australian manufactured fire alarm panel for large mobile machinery with applications across multiple industries.”

The Fogmaker product has allowed Firestorm to access markets across Australia and New Zealand.
