Lake Macquarie City Council appoints new CEO

Lake Macquarie City Council has appointed Morven Cameron as its new CEO after Council anonymously endorsed her appointment in late July.

Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Councillor Kay Fraser, said Morven was chosen in a competitive selection process from a high-calibre field of experienced candidates.

“She is a highly impressive talent known for her collaborative leadership style and I know firsthand just how passionate she is about ensuring we build on the solid foundation and momentum that Lake Macquarie has enjoyed in recent years,” Kay said.

“With her leadership and the hard working staff of Council, Lake Macquarie is in very good hands.”

Morven’s vision, proven experience and achievements, together with her passion for local government and immeasurable understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing large, dynamic councils serving their local community, impressed Council during the recruitment process.

Morven said it was an honour to have been selected to lead “this progressive organisation and vibrant city”.

“We have a very solid base on which to progress and move forward,” Morven said.

“I’m excited about what the future will bring when we all work together, and I thank the Mayor and Councillors, Council staff and the community for their support.”

Morven, who was the Council’s Director Community Development and has more than 15 years’ experience in local government, will commence in the role from Monday 28 August.

Morven has played an important role in the creation of Dantia, the development of Lake Macquarie City Council’s 2014 Enterprise Agreement, the creation of The Place and development of the 2012 Securing Our Future program.

Former General Manager, Brian Bell, announced his retirement in April. Brian retired after a career in local government spanning 50 years, including the past 11 years at Lake Macquarie City Council.
