Local business leader, John Cleary has been appointed to the Board of TROG Cancer Research.
Currently the CEO at Benhome Aged Care Facility in Maitland, John has a strong history of supporting local causes and the community. John also worked for more than 10 years for the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle.
TROG Cancer Research CEO, Joan Torony said John was a perfect fit for TROG’s Board as he has more than 20 years’ experience at a senior management and executive level in both the not-for-profit and for-profit industries.
John was named the 2017 Lake Macquarie Citizen of the Year for his ongoing commitment to children’s education and his testimony before the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
John said he is excited to draw on his extensive not-for-profit board experience and donate time back to help the “wonderful and dedicated group that is TROG”.
“I am hoping to bring my not-for- profit governance and commercial experience to the TROG
Board and assist in raising the profile of TROG in my professional networks,” John said.
TROG Cancer Research, which has its headquarters in Newcastle, is a global leader in the field of cancer clinical trials research.
“For almost 30 years’ TROG’s clinical trials have been helping to improve the way in which radiotherapy treatment is delivered, improving outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients,” Joan said.
Working with more than 70 cancer treatment centres and hospitals across Australia and New Zealand, TROG has conducted more than 100 clinical trials with the help of 14,000 patient volunteers.
More than 130,000 Australians are diagnosed with cancer each year and it is estimated that one in two individuals will be diagnosed with cancer by their 85th birthday.
TROG is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Australian cancer patients with world class radiotherapy research.
