International legal business to launch Newcastle office

International legal business DWF has announced further growth of its Australian arm with a number of senior hires and the launch of a new office in Newcastle.

This will be the Manchester (UK) headquartered firm’s fourth Australian office after opening in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in 2017, following mergers with Triton Global and Kaden Boriss.

Corporate Partner and Sparke Helmore’s Former Chairman, Mark Hickey joins as Chairman of DWF Asia Pacific, a new position for the business, and will take a lead role in the development of the Newcastle office.

Mark is joined by corporate Partners David Reid and Vi-Ky Lam and corporate Director Jason Lambeth, banking and finance Partners Ben Burney and Adam Fuller and safety and industrials relations Lawyer Matt Smith.

Also joining DWF is Kirsten Farmer, an insolvency and restructuring partner from HWL Ebsworth, who was recently named in Best Lawyers 2018 for her specialist work in insolvency and reorganisation law.

With the new appointments, DWF is able to establish a larger commercial practice in the region and enhance capability in its primary sectors, particularly real estate, insurance and financial services.

Managing Partner of DWF Australia, Jamie McPherson said he is excited by the new team and opportunities in the region.

“I am very pleased to welcome this talented group of individuals on board and believe that they will allow us to make significant strides in expanding our offering in response to positive demand from our clients,” Jamie said.

“Along with the appointment of these new partners, our launch in Newcastle is a key piece of our Australian growth plans. With the leading regional economy, a strong workforce and the ongoing development of the city as a metropolitan hub, Newcastle is a great place for us to start building out a new team to better service our clients across Australia.”

DWF is also looking to further grow its Connected Services offering in Australia; a range of services – including technology and software solutions and a research and development vehicle – that are complementary to the business’s core legal services.
