Hunter based not-for-profit (NFP) organisation, Go Circular and Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) have partnered to achieve HNELHD’s Sustainable Healthcare: Together Towards Zero goal of being carbon and waste neutral by 2030.
We know 25 per cent of all human disease and death in the world is attributed to unhealthy environments, like unclean air and water, and that health as an industry is a significant contributor to carbon emissions.
The reality is, it’s no longer possible to be committed to the health of our community without addressing the health of our environment.
HNELHD Chief Executive, Michael DiRienzo said the HNE Local Health District are doing their part to take a greener approach to health care, which will ultimately ensure we can enjoy our planet for longer.
“The Local Hunter District will be doing a huge amount of work in coming years to achieve its green vision and take its place as an industry and community leader in sustainability,” Michael said.
“In response, we’re taking a giant step towards clean, green healthcare, investing in solar power, exploring sustainable water practices, reducing waste to landfill, and much more.”
Go Circular is proud to be partnering with HNEH to achieve these goals.
“All industries need to take these views on board if we are going to achieve carbon reduction by 2030,” Go Circular Founder, Annie Jiang said.
“It is great to see that Hunter New England Health has taken a leadership role to drive change for sustainable health care in the region. Achieving zero emissions needs collective action.”
HNELHD Project Manager Sustainability, Elissa Klinkenberg said it will be important to use these partnerships to see growth and ensure sustainability is an achievable goal.
“For our LHD to meet its 2030 targets, stakeholder engagement is imperative. We look forward to building a collaborative partnership with Go Circular while building awareness for circular opportunities,” she said.
“The partnership with Go Circular has been put into place to meet the growing appetite for shifting from a linear economy to a circular economy, and to support innovation, and job growth and creation in the local region,” Elissa concluded.
