A new Hunter cosmetic medicine and skin health business is leading the country in the introduction of new technology to capitalise on a growing market.

The Mayah Clinic was the first clinic in Australia to use the Halo tunable, hybrid fractional laser to treat skin damage.

Clinic Founder Dr Kathryn Holmes said the Halo laser is the first of its kind in the world and significantly advances treatment and recovery times.

Dr Holmes said she has started to use the laser to treat her first patients with great success.

“The hybrid fractional laser allows me to control the depth and coverage of two different laser wavelengths (ablative and non-ablative) simultaneously to better customise treatment to each patient’s needs and reduce the required number of treatments” she said.

The Halo laser was developed by leading US manufacturer of aesthetic light and laser equipment, Sciton, and launched globally this year.

Dr Holmes said cosmetic medicine is now a billion dollar industry in Australia and a growing market. She sees embracing new technology and the fact that she is a qualified and experienced doctor that is always on site as a key factor to her business success.

“Establishing my own business is a natural progression in my career and allows me to achieve my goal of helping people to look better and feel better using the most advanced treatments available.”

The clinic was officially launched at a Christmas party at the start of this month.

Dr Holmes has more than 25 years experience in medicine. She was a GP for 15 years before she saw a training position in cosmetic medicine in Sydney. She has a Bachelor of Medicine from Melbourne’s Monash University and is a Founding Fellow of the Australasian College of Aesthetic Medicine.
