Giving young people a voice

Giving young people a voice

Young people, families, youth service providers and the wider community are encouraged to contribute to Lake Macquarie City Council’s Youth Strategy 2014-2019.

Council’s Manager Community Planning, John Ferguson, said the feedback provided through the online survey and Facebook photo competition will guide a five-year blueprint to ensure that Council considers the needs and issues of the City’s young people.

“We want to ensure that the City of Lake Macquarie provides the best possible environment for our young residents to live, work and enjoy life;” John said.

“Children and youths are our future and we need to engage them to understand the unique challenges they might face as they transition into adulthood.”

“Council plays a key role in bringing together the different youth support networks, schools and services, and providing platforms for the City’s young people to express their opinions and contribute to debate on current and future needs.”

Council will carry out the Strategy’s action plan over the next five years with the primary goal of working towards a brighter future for young people in Lake Macquarie.
