Economic development for Lake Macquarie

Economic development for Lake Macquarie

Earlier this year, Lake Macquarie City Council decided to establish an external Board to deliver economic development activities that will support retention and growth of existing local businesses, and attract more business to the Lake Macquarie City.

The Board will have nine members, including the Mayor and the General Manager of Lake Macquarie City Council who will be full members of the Board. External Board members will serve a four-year term, with an expression of interest process held to replace or renew Board members.

Membership will be staggered to ensure greater continuity; in the first instance, seven external members of the Board are being sought, with four positions being for a full four-year term and three positions being for a half term of two years.

Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Cr Jodie Harrison, said the decision to establish the Board marks a new era for economic development planning and activity in the City.

“This is an exciting opportunity to be a founding member of the Lake Macquarie Economic Development Board, which will aim to attract new businesses to the City and support growth of our existing businesses,” she said.

“We are seeking expressions of interest from talented business minds that are passionate about business and willing to drive the next generation of economic growth in Lake Macquarie City.”

“Our economy is underpinned by diverse business sectors, unique town centres and a well educated workforce, and Board members will be chosen to reflect this diversity.”

A detailed information pack is available at Council’s website, with expressions of interest closing 5pm on Monday 21 October 2013.
