Disability sector conference held in the Hunter

Last week, leading disability service provider, Ability Options presented at the 'Create, Don't Wait' NSW State Conference at Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens.

Hosted by the Hunter Disability Forum the NSW Life, Skills and Employment conference provides the opportunity for the sector to be inspired, gain knowledge and share innovative ideas with the aim of transforming the sector to support a more meaningful, active and connected community.

Ability Options Community Relationship Manager, Sheridan Ferrier, said the conference provided the platform for Ability Options to share their experience and expertise to assist in improving the sector.

“Ability Options is a leading provider of disability services in NSW and is one of the first service providers of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in the early stages of the Hunter launch,” Sheridan said. “We were delighted to be able to share our knowledge and expertise with the industry.”

“Since opening the Hunter office last month, we have seen a steady growth in clients transitioning to the NDIS and are working closely with the state and federal governments in ensuring our services are closely aligned with the needs of the people with disabilities in the Hunter.”

The two-day conference involved discussions about the NDIS roll out and was opened by Marie New, Regional Director Hunter Department FaCS |Ageing, Disability and Home Care.

The session presented by Ability Options was title The journey – experiencing self managed programs from a service providers perspective with other sessions including grant writing, funding and social media.
