Business gets Hunter running

A Hunter business is joining with local Councils and athletics groups to help get the Hunter running.

The Greater Building Society is supporting two community running events in the Hunter. The Lake Macquarie Fernleigh 15 will be run on Sunday, 18 October 2015 and the Greater Raymond Terrace Fun Run is on Fathers Day, Sunday, 6 September 2015.

The Greater is entering a team and is calling on other businesses to join it in supporting the events to help get the region and economy fit and healthy.

Other local organisations getting behind the Fernleigh 15 are major sponsor Lake Macquarie City Council, organiser H Events, as well as Newcastle City CouncilNBN and Newcastle Herald.

Port Stephens Council supported the Raymond Terrace event.  The two events are part of the Greater Fun Run Series of 10 events being held across NSW in 2015. The series is organised by Athletics NSW’s RunNSW team and sponsored by the Greater Building Society.

The Fernleigh 15 is in its fourth year. It attracted 900 participants in 2012 but RunNSW’s Scott Westcott is expecting 1,500 runners of all ages and abilities to make their way from Adamstown to Belmont this year.

Scott said the event will draw elite athletes to the region but it is also a fun event for families to enjoy. With former winner and Paralympian Kurt Fernley unable to participate, another Newcastle legend and five time Paralympian Christie Dawes is favourite to take out the wheelchair event. Former winner Aaron Royle has not confirmed but is expected to run in the elite men’s event. Social running groups such as the Newcastle Flyers, Wooters and (Pink) Night Striders will be involved in the Fernleigh 15.

Greater Bank

The customer-owned Greater Bank is Newcastle and the Hunter's only local bank.

It offers a greater kind of banking experience whether you're buying a home, saving, investing, paying the bills, insuring your possessions, travelling or planning for retirement - online, on the phone, at a local branch or through its national ATM network.

Greater Bank is experienced, safe and strong like the big banks.  The difference is it doesn't have shareholders so it's always focussed on customers and community.

Greater Bank's friendly, expert team has made it a winner of the national Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards three years running, with ratings as high as 97%.
