Bike ride to raise money for HMRI

The annual Newcastle to Dungog Charity Bikeride is on again next month. Now in its eighth year, the ride has raised over $60,000 for the local community.

The charity ride will take place on Saturday, 9th of September and is run by The Rotary Club of Newcastle, will all proceeds going to HMRI and the club.

The Rotary Club of Newcastle President, Graham Clark is expecting a diverse group of riders for the event.

“We’re looking forward to a large field of riders of all skill levels, from elite racing cyclists to recreational riders participating this year,” Graham said.

“This is the eighth year that we’ve held this 90 kilometre ride, which winds its way from the Newcastle Foreshore to the Pacific Highway, turning onto the Bucketts Way and then onto a very scenic route along Limeburners Creek Road and Glenn Martin and on into Dungog.”

Marshals will be at all important intersections, including the Hexham Bridge, where the vehicular traffic will be supervised to allow riders to safely pass onto the Pacific Highway. A Mobile First Aid vehicle and sag wagons will also be in attendance so all participants can enjoy a safe ride.

The Rotary Club of Dungog will be running their Pedalfest event over the same weekend and will have a BBQ operating from about 9.30am for the very fast riders.

Most riders organise to be met by family-members for a picnic in the countryside before packing the bikes onto their cars to head home.

“The Newcastle to Dungog Charity Bikeride is a great event taking riders safely through the beautiful countryside while helping HMRI to continue their fantastic work in the community,” Graham said.

“Registration for this event is on the website and we look forward to having a large field of riders participating and raising funds for HMRI.”
