The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is one of our generation’s most significant opportunities to enhance global trade and investment connectivity.
China’s transition to a more open economy is founded on principles of inclusiveness, cooperation and collaboration, but how can this be leveraged by local businesses?
That question will be answered at Newcastle China Week’s Business Forum on Friday 13 October 2017 at NeW Space.
With presentations from academics and China experts, expect to learn about the topic in more depth, including the impact it will have on trade development, investment opportunities, tourism growth and the enhancement of economic ties between Newcastle and China going forward.
Presented by the Confucius Institute at The University of Newcastle, in partnership with Central China Normal University, the Business Forum is part of a series of events from 12 to 15 October, celebrating the economic, educational and cultural relationship the Hunter Region shares with the world’s second largest economy.
The University of Newcastle’s Director of Institution Relations for Greater China, Cher Jones, explained the concept as a kind of re-imagining of the legendary Silk Road.
“What is incredible about this audacious undertaking is that it is set to generate $US1 trillion worth of projects and will involve 65 countries, so it is vital that businesses in Newcastle, Central Coast and the Hunter Regions have the opportunity to get on board and ride the wave,” said Cher.
The event will be opened by Professor Tony Travaglione, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Business and Law. The event is structured with two streams and will conclude with a lively panel discussion.
