Australia’s aged care for China

Australia’s aged care for China

Local Newcastle training organisation, HGT Australia (Novaskill), is responding to the Chinese government’s ambitious plan to transform the country’s aged care industry by partnering with Chinese institutions to deliver vocational training and train-the-trainer programs.

In 2020, China’s population is expected to exceed 1.4billion, of which 248 million will be aged 60 years or above. HGT’s General Manager, John Liddicoat advises that with the Chinese government aspiring to provide a workforce of 10 million aged care workers by 2020, the business is working to respond to a rapid growth in demand for skills.

“In response to the emerging demand for more highly skilled aged care professionals, HGT Australia entered into formal cooperation agreements with schools, hospitals and public and private care providers across numerous locations, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, and Chengdu during 2015,” John said.

HGT Australia is featured in the Federal Government’s Australian business guide, The Health and Aged Care Industry in China, which was launched by The Hon.Minister Steven Ciobo MP (Minister for Trade Tourism and Investment) on 15 September 2016.

The publication identifies key opportunities and challenges of doing business in China and takes an in-depth look at HGT’s strategic focus on tailoring its training programs by understanding local culture, regulatory environment, and learner needs.

“Having the right team and specific Chinese knowledge and experience is essential. We are tremendously fortunate to have a team of expert professionals lead by Annie Jiang (Head of International Business Development Manager)who bridge our cultural differences to achieve success and sustainability inChina,” John said.

After 36 years of successful operation here, expansion into China is a significant strategic priority for HGT Australia and has proven that Australia can play an active and important role in helping shape the future of China’s health and aged care industry.
