2017 Future Leaders Program debate

2017 Future Leaders Program debate

The first day of spring saw four high profile business leaders and two recent graduates from the HunterNet Future Leaders Program battle it out in a debate on the important topic of the next evolution of Hunter’s economy.

The debate was the key drawcard for the inaugural HunterNet Future Leaders alumni luncheon held on 1 September 2017 at the Central Hotel by Matilda Bay in Newcastle.

Central to the debate was the theme of regional leadership, with the teams discussing the Hunter’s leadership of the past versus the future.

Panellists included Samantha Alford from Inbound Addons; Peter Cock from Newcastle Airport; Lyndell Fogarty from PerformHR; Tegann Kelly from Environmental Property Services; Glenn Thornton from WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff and Rick Evans from Regional Development Australia (RDA) Hunter.

Moderated by Ed Riley, Strategy Facilitator and Coach in Infrastructure, the afternoon was thought provoking and an opportunity to network with emerging leaders and senior leaders of the Hunter region.

The highly successful HunterNet Future Leaders Program is in its third year and designed to equip emerging leaders with the skills, contacts, and confidence to lead companies.

Delivered across 12 sessions, participants are exposed to core business and team leadership skills. Sessions are delivered by current leaders and professional practitioners.

The final seven weeks of the program has the participants developing a team-based submission, supported by an experienced industry mentor.

The HunterNet future Leaders Program expands participants’ networks, linking them with the best from the Hunter, supported by mentors drawn from a cross-section of Hunter businesses.

Panellist and PerformHR CEO, Lyndell Fogarty said the event was important for the region.

“The event really did highlight what the region needs to continue doing, and doing more of – bringing people to the table to collaborate, debate and create future thinking together,” Lyndell said.
The afternoon was an opportunity to learn about the HunterNet Future Leaders program, participants and employers alike.
