The Equal Futures Project (EFP), earlier this month, donated close to $28,000 to two Hunter charities, who are both delivering programs which address diversity and inclusion.
Nutrition Plus and Got Your Back Sister (GYBS) each received close to $14,000, with the proceeds raised coming from the EFP’s 10th annual International Women’s Day breakfast held in March.
In presenting the cheque, EFP’s Chair, Dr Kirsten Molloy, told Nutrition Plus CEO Louise Glennie about how thrilled she was to be able to present these great charities with much needed financial support from the community.
“The committee is delighted to be supporting Nutrition Plus as one of two charity partners and to be able to financially support their cultural awareness workshops,” she said.
“Support from our main corporate partners – Port Waratah Coal Service and Wests, as well as guests who’ve attended over the past ten years, have taken the total raised during this time to nearly $190,000.”
“Equal Futures celebrated its 10th anniversary International Women’s Day breakfast this year and we wanted to ensure we invested in charities who work to encourage diversity or to support minority groups,” she said.
The event featured Doctor, Author and civil rights activist, Dr Kerryn Phelps, and attracted a sell-out crowd of over 570 people.
Nutrition Plus CEO, Louise Glennie said, they were so happy to work alongside a great organisation such as the Equal Futures Project.
“The partnership with EFP was such a good fit, and I’m very pleased to have made the connection between our two organisations,” she said.
At the cheque presentation for GYBS, Founder Mel Histon said that the donation came as quite the surprise, but that it was welcomed and will be put towards some of the new projects currently being rolled out.
“We will use it to help roll out our school health relationships and self defence classes. We had to put the breaks on our program because of COVID-19, but we’re now starting to lock in schools for later in the year,” Mel said.
Got Your Back Sista offers benevolent relief and support to women and children escaping domestic violence and are at risk of living below the poverty line.
The local charity gives a hand up to women so they can begin again and live independently. The Equal Futures project has a history of supporting charities that assist women escaping domestic violence and are in crisis.
Nutrition Plus is an Australian-wide charity, that grew from Newcastle, to improve the health of Indigenous children. Nutrition Plus is extending its focus to increase understanding, knowledge and shared values with first peoples, increase awareness and respect for their ancient wisdom that is still relevant today.
The work aims to break down racial misconceptions within individuals, businesses and communities via coordination and delivery of corporate cultural events.
