Doctor of different kind raises awareness

Local trades organisation, The Plumbing & Electrical Doctor, has announced a strategic partnership with grassroots charity Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF).

The alliance will help to support fundraising and awareness for breast cancer throughout the Hunter region and was launched with the unveiling of a newly decorated plumbing vehicle, complete with HBCF’s pink livery.

A proud supporter of the local community, The Plumbing & Electrical Doctor service manager, Ben Nadjecki, said he is happy that his company can provide assistance to such a valuable cause.

“So many people are impacted by breast cancer, everyone is aware of it and almost everyone knows a person that has been affected,” Ben said.

“It can be easy to forget that the efforts of charities like HBCF is undertaken by volunteers.”

“While a lot of people do donate, they are just one off donations. They need ongoing support and we hope that we can help them with that.”

Ben said that plans are to offer all customers the opportunity to make a donation when tradespeople are out on the job.

“Our guys are out in the community every day so this is a perfect chance for us to help out. What we want to do is give every customer we visit the chance to donate and to know who HBCF is and what a great job they do.”

HBCF President, Rosalie Taggart, said that raising community awareness of breast cancer was of vital part of what the Foundation does in the region.

“Support from organisations such as The Plumbing and Electrical Doctor add great value to this grassroot support organisation,” Rosalie said.

The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organisation, which provides support for women and men diagnosed and being treated for breast cancer in the Hunter, and for their families. It does this through transportation to and from treatment, providing post operative comfort cushions and assisting with professional lawn maintenance and house cleaning services for people undergoing treatment.

The Foundation supports the education of young people who have parents with breast cancer. It donated medical equipment to a number of hospitals and funds scholarships young students whose parents are undergoing treatment. The Foundation also sponsors a wig library at Newcastle Private Hospital and donated a series of textbooks for use by oncology nurses.

Donations can be made through The Plumbing & Electrical Doctors tradespeople, or made directly to HBCF at their website.
