Hunter law firm, Catherine Henry Lawyers, has expanded its family law offering to include providing mediation services.
Special Counsel and Head of the firm’s family law team, Alan Wright, has completed qualifications to be a professional member of the Resolution Institute and is accredited under the National Mediation Accreditation System.
When reviewing family law cases Alan said that most family law cases could be resolved, and that private mediation often results in settlements.
“I have always been a big fan of mediation because it helps people come to sensible, early resolutions and avoid the time and expense of going to court,” Alan recalls.
“Mediation is an increasingly popular option in family law matters in NSW regional areas, including Newcastle and the Hunter, where there are significant delays in family law court proceedings.”
Principal of the firm, Catherine Henry, said Alan is one of the region’s pre-eminent family lawyers.
However, some cases do not require mediation.
“If yours is a simple property settlement, you probably don’t need to go to the expense of mediation because good family law solicitors should be able to resolve things by negotiating directly with the other party’s lawyers,” Catherine said.
Catherine said that Alan has a down-to-earth determination to get the best result for clients without any unnecessary stress or costs.
“Because every family law situation is unique, Alan and his team truly listen to clients so they can negotiate hard on your behalf,” she said.
“Some people have long accepted the fact that the relationship’s over and they’re eager to get it over and done with while others are in complete shock and don’t know what to do.”
Alan has been a lawyer for twenty-nine years working almost exclusively in family law.
He has been an accredited specialist in family law since 1997; a qualification given by the NSW Law Society to the state’s foremost family law solicitors.
He said he is fortunate to have two passionate family law solicitors in his team in Ashlea Taylor and Liza Stewart to help with his services.
