Baby boomer business owners need to plan

Exit Alliance is coordinating a free seminar to help business owners put in place an exit and succession plan for their business.

The seminar will be run by Mark Apthorpe, local Planning Partner at Exit Alliance, along with representatives from Achieve Financial Group and Whitelaw McDonald.

“Transitioning out of one’s business is rarely top of mind for small business owners, many are so busy working in their business, managing resources, and trying to make a decent living in an ever challenging environment,” Mark said.

“Research states that half of all SME businesses will sell in the next five years, so with many ‘baby boomer’ business owners exiting together, there is a real potential that this will have a negative impact on prices for sellers.”

Specifically developed for business owners, the seminar will provide attendees with critical information to help them prepare and position their business to secure the optimum outcome for when they eventually transition out of the business.

“There is increasing concern that the flood of businesses to market will drive down prices,” Mark continued.

“Not only that, but also a lack of exit planning means that there is genuine concern about the capacity of SMEs to extract value from the sale.”
