Lovedale business community helps Maitland Hospital patients

A special celebration by the Lovedale business community to recognise the long awaited official extension to the boundaries of their region will benefit patients at Maitland Hospital.

The proceeds from the Swing‘n’Blues business dinner were recently given to the Maitland Hospital Foundation.

President of the Lovedale Chamber of Commerce, Linda Barnes, and Sales and Marketing Manager for Vintage Realty, Robert Brooks, presented a cheque for $4,200 (Including a $1000 donation from Vintage Realty) to Michael Minter, Managing Partner of Pitcher Partners. Michael said he gratefully accepted it on behalf of his Pitcher Partners’ colleague and Chairman of the Maitland Hospital Foundation, Greg Farrow.

Linda said more than 100 local business people attended the dinner at Allandale Winery. She said the event was a chance to salute the enormous amount of effort and determination put in by many locals over nine years to expand the traditionally accepted boundaries of Lovedale to match the tourist maps used by Lovedale businesses. In 2007 the Geographic Names Board (GNB) requested Cessnock Council take steps to identify and establish the boundaries of Pokolbin, Lovedale and Rothbury. Council sought submissions munity to assist it in formalising a position to put to the GNB.

Lovedale businessman and long-time local resident Alex Stuart, then Warraroong Vineyard owner Bob Brady and then Chamber President Robyn Gill led the team that collected a mountain of evidence to support an expansion of the traditionally accepted boundaries of Lovedale. Linda said the attempt was initially unsuccessful but after a nine year battle and the election of a new Council, the new precinct of Lovedale is born.

She said the dinner and donation was only possible because of the generous support of local businesses including The Vintage, Reflections Day Spa, Mojos Picnic Hamper, Hunter Valley Tours, HunterTrikes, Deck Café, Ogishi Glass, Slattery Helicopters, Sabor Dessert Bar, Beyond Ballooning,  Capercaillie Wines,  Adina Vineyard,  Tatler Wines, Allandale Winery, Gartelmann Wines,  Lovedale Brewery, Blackwattle Luxury Retreats, and Thirsty Palette. She also thanked Ken and  Jill Dobler, Tony Newton, Steve Barnes, Paul Geraeds and Rosemaree Herminjard for their support.

Michael said the funds will go toward the purchase of a patient transport chair for the hospital. The special chair is able to safely move patients in hospital and can accommodate patient documents and an oxygen bottle. Greg later joined Michael in thanking the Chamber for its support. He said it is local business support such as this  that helps us get better equipment and services at Maitland Hospital to meet the needs of the local community.

Robert Brooks said it was a great night for a great cause. He encouraged businesses to continue to support the local hospital through the Foundation.

“The Vintage and Vintage Realty support Maitland Hospital Foundation as many of the residents of The Vintage, which includes young families to retirees, rely on the hospital and its services,” Robert said.

The Maitland Hospital Foundation is a not for profit entity established by the local business community. It is a separate from the hospital but works closely with the hospital to determine funding needs. It uses business and community partnerships to raise vital funds to ensure the purchase of much needed equipment, continued development of research, education and special projects, which will provide integrated health care for patients of The Maitland Hospital.
