Hunter next in line to join the good business revolution

Conscious Capitalism Australia (CCA) is the latest establishment to recognise the Hunter region as an incubator for good business.

Conscious Capitalism, a movement started in the US, is a way of thinking about capitalism and business that better reflects where we are in the human journey, the state of our world today, and the innate potential of business to make a positive impact on the world.

With the release of their 2020 Strategy, CCA will be holding launch events Australia-wide over the coming weeks, with the Hunter hosting the only regional event on the agenda.

Siobhan Doran, Executive Director of CCA, believes great things will come with the launch of the Hunter Chapter.

“We have some highly committed members in the Hunter who volunteer their time and advocate profusely for CCA,” Siobhan said. They have been an integral part of launching our 2020 Strategy and we can only bet there are more like them across the Hunter Region. We’re hoping to bring all of these businesses together to help us lead the way in co-creating conscious business across Australia.”

CCA say research has shown that these businesses are more successful, more ethical and create better places to work. Conscious Capitalism has four pillars guiding and underlying a business – higher purpose, stakeholder orientation, conscious leadership and conscious culture.

Local businessman and avid CCA supporter, Luke Burrell, says his company Mezzanine has been implementing the principles of Conscious Capitalism for several years and is committed to growing the Hunter Chapter alongside other forward-thinking Hunter leaders.

“We’re all about integrity in business and elevating humanity through our work, so finding the CCA community was like the yin to our yang. It’s just a better way to do business,” Luke said.

Mezzanine will host the Hunter Launch event which will be held on 22 September at innx.hub. Guests will hear from a panel of experts on purpose-driven business, including Executive Director Siobhan Doran (via skype), workplace futurist Heidi Pollard from UQ Power and Eleanor Glenn from Common Cause Australia, amongst others.
